Delta Airlines and United Airlines are offering new non-stop services to Belize City, making Belize even more accessible for travelers departing from Los Angeles and Newark this winter.

Taking advantage of the West Coast market to Belize, Delta Airlines will be offering convenient non-stop service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Belize City (BZE) on Saturdays starting December 21st, 2013. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft flying this route will have 160 seats available. Delta is the only airline offering the convenience of non-stop service between Los Angeles and Belize City. Flights depart at approximately 12am, and land in Belize City at 7am. The new route complements Delta’s existing services between Belize City and Atlanta, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to the Central American region.

To meet the growing need for non-stop flights from Newark to Belize, United Airlines will be adding three more non-stop flights between Newark, NY (EWR) and Belize City, (BZE) resulting in an additional 354 seats per week for the December to January holiday season. Service will be on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Flights depart at 1pm and land at approximately 7pm.

Sept. 16–BUTTE — Delta Airlines plans to bring larger regional planes to serve Montana and other areas and will start a nonstop flight between Billings and Atlanta next summer, top company officials said at the Economic Development Summit on Monday.

“We see a lot of opportunities for the Bakken,” said Eric Phillips, Delta’s vice president of pricing and revenue management for the Americas, who is originally from Lewistown. He was referring to the need for consultants and other business people to get to the oil fields in Eastern Montana and western North Dakota.

Delta CEO Richard Anderson said the company at some point will add larger planes to serve Montana, switching to 100-passenger regional planes from the current 50-passenger planes. He called the 50-seat regional planes uneconomical. He did not specify when the larger regional planes would be put in service.

Phillips said Delta originally started nonstop flights between Atlanta and Bozeman during summer and winter and now is doing it year round. In addition, Phillips said Delta last year added nonstop plane service during the summer between Atlanta and Missoula.

Delta also is considering adding a nonstop flight between John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Bozeman, he said.

Anticipatinig criticism about the lack of Delta flights into Montana, Anderson said Montana needs to increase more business travel to attract more flights. About 85 percent of the flights into Montana are tourism-related, while 15 percent are for business, he said.

Phillips said Delta’s air traffic in Montana is up 9 percent this fall over last fall.

In response to a question about high air fares, the two Delta executives said pricing is related to the cost of fuel. Jet fuel prices have quadrupled since 2000, they said.

Porsche’s Atlanta branch previously teamed up with Delta Airlines for a program for its VIP passengers, which is now set to expand to other major cities.

According to NPR, Delta’s frequent-flying Medallion members get the perk of being shuttled in a Porsche Cayenne or Panamera on the airport’s tarmac in-between flights, so those VIP’s can make flight connections without a run through the terminal.

Following the success of the program in Atlanta, the airline is set to begin rolling out similar options in New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis this month.

According to AutoBlog.com, Mercedes-Benz ran a program over the summer that offered purchasing and leasing incentives to MileagePlus Premier members of United Airlines, and the two are currently shuttling top fliers around Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport in the automaker’s S-Class and GL-Class models.

Fitch Ratings has affirmed the ratings of Industrial Development
Corporation (IDC) of the Port of Seattle’s special facilities revenue
bonds, series 2012 (Delta Air Lines, Inc. Project) at ‘B+’. The rating
Outlook is Positive.

KEY RATING DRIVERS

The rating takes into consideration the following factors: (i) Delta Air
Lines, Inc.’s (DAL’s) credit quality (ii) the structure of the
transaction (iii) Fitch’s view on the likelihood of affirmation of this
lease and ultimate recovery for bondholders in a potential
restructuring. Unlike most airport revenue bonds which are viewed as
unsecured claims of the airline, bondholders in this issue are secured
by the lease between DAL and the Port of Seattle for the property which
holds DAL’s hanger facility.

The issuing entity is the IDC of the Port of Seattle, but it has a
limited obligation on the rated bonds. These bonds are serviced
exclusively by the lease payments from DAL under its financing lease
agreement with the IDC, and DAL also provides an unsecured guarantee.
Furthermore, the bond is secured by the original lease agreement between
DAL and the Port of Seattle for the hanger facility, which enables the
bond trustee to re-lease the facility to a new tenant if DAL decides to
reject the lease in a potential bankruptcy. Accordingly, Fitch believes
that recovery for bondholders in these notes would be higher than DAL
unsecured debt in the event DAL rejected this lease in a potential
restructuring. While this supports recovery in a downside scenario,
Fitch’s base case view is that DAL would likely affirm this lease
obligation in a potential filing (as it did before when Northwest filed
in 2005) given the strategic importance of SEA to DAL. Although SEA is
not a hub or major airport for DAL, it is an important gateway for the
airline on the west coast and a profit center for its maintenance
services.

Bozeman will have a daily nonstop flight to Atlanta beginning next summer.

The CEO of Delta Air Lines, Richard Anderson, told those gathered at the Economic Summit in Butte that flights to Bozeman have done so well that the company is expanding service.
He noted that air passenger travel in Montana expands almost in lockstep with growth in the state’s economy.

“So in the summer of 2014, based on how well that market has done, Atlanta-Bozeman will fly daily instead of just a few times a week. That’s a great, great step,” Anderson said.

Anderson said Delta is also considering adding a nonstop flight from Bozeman to JFK in New York.
Business has been good for Delta and prospects look even better.

“This past summer we flew Atlanta-Missoula nonstop, we are very pleased with how that did,” Anderson said. “We flew Atlanta-Kalispell nonstop during the summer, and then next summer we will be adding Atlanta-Billings with a nonstop flight.”

The new Billings flight is expected to fly on Saturdays.

GREEN BAY — Delta Airlines at Austin Straubel Airport is making some changes to get football fans back home after Sunday’s Packers vs. Redskins game at Lambeau Field.

Delta expecting a big crowd wanting to fly out on Monday, so they’re bringing in bigger planes to help with the overflow. Some of those plans can hold as many as 150 people.

“They’ve actually been able to fill all of those airplanes, there’s just a handful of seats available right now and I would expect that they would be gone by Sunday or Monday morning when those flights actually depart,” says Airport Director Tom Miller.

Leaders with Delta say the larger flights may continue on future game weekends.

Detroit A strong odor Friday morning has forced the diversion of a Delta Airlines flight that was headed from Frankfurt, Germany, to Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

According to Delta, flight 143 made an unscheduled landing at Dublin International Airport out of an abundance of caution to examine the source of an odor in the aircraft.

The flight landed without incident and passengers deplaned normally while the source of the odor was investigated. According to Delta, an alternate aircraft was made available to the passengers.
