A Delta Airlines flight that departed from BWI Thurgood Marshall airport en route to Salt Lake City Friday night was diverted to Minneapolis because of an unruly passenger, the airline said.

Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport police removed the passenger from the plane and the flight continued to its intended destination, Delta spokesman Eric Torbenson said.

Several videos purporting to be of the incident were uploaded to YouTube, but Torbenson could not confirm whether the video was of flight No. 1189.

TSA bans carry-on liquids on Russia flights

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Homeland Security Department is banning all liquids from carry-on luggage for nonstop flights from the U.S. to Russia.

The ban comes after the department warned airlines that terrorists might try to smuggle explosives on board hidden in toothpaste tubes. The warning said terrorist might try to assemble explosive device in flight or upon arrival at the Olympics.

Delta Airlines, the only U.S. airline with regularly scheduled nonstop flights to Russia, posted a warning about the Transportation Security Administration policy Thursday.

The government warning became public on the eve of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Homeland Security has said the government is not aware of a threat to the U.S.

Delta Agrees to Up Workers' Pay at City Airports

Delta Airlines has agreed to give a raise to its lowest paid workers at JFK and LaGuardia Airports.

Delta will bump up the wages $1 an hour by April, and eventually bring all workers making $9 an hour or less up to $10 and 10 cents an hour.

President Barack Obama recently ordered federal contractors to be paid $10.10 an hour.

In addition to the raises, Delta will make Martin Luther King Junior Day a paid holiday for all contract workers, and pay them retroactively for last month’s holiday.

Delta’s actions come after the Port Authority sent a letter to four major airlines telling them to raise worker pay.

Governor Andrew Cuomo is praising the move.

He issued a statement saying, in part, “New York should have world-class airports that we as a state can be proud of – and the only way that is possible is if employees who keep our two busiest airports running are compensated fairly. I am pleased to announce that Delta Air Lines has stepped up and agreed to our requests, leading the way for other major airlines to follow suit.”

A Delta Airlines flight made an emergency landing Thursday night at the Rochester International Airport due to an engine problem. The plane landed without incident, and all 50 passengers and crew members exited without injury.

According to a press release from the Rochester Fire Department, a flight from Des Moines, Iowa to Minneapolis was diverted to Rochester just before 7 p.m. when its crew noticed an abnormal temperature reading on one of the two engines of the Canadair Regional Jet.

US warns of explosives in toothpaste tubes

(AP) The Homeland Security Department is warning airlines flying to Russia that terrorists may try to smuggle explosives on board hidden in toothpaste tubes.

The threat was passed onto airlines that have direct flights to Russia, including some that originate in the United States, according to a law enforcement official speaking Wednesday on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss details of the warning.

The official said the airlines were warned that explosive devices could be assembled in flight or upon arrival at the Olympics.

The department said in a statement that the U.S. “isn’t aware of a specific threat to the homeland at this time.” It said the department “regularly shares information with domestic and international partners, including those associated with international events such as the Sochi Olympics.”

Delta Airlines is the only U.S. carrier with a direct flight from the United States to Moscow. Russian airlines Aeroflot and Transaero both operate several nonstop flights from the U.S.

United Airlines, the official airline of the U.S. Olympic team, does not have scheduled service to Russia but is operating some charter flights to Sochi.

The warning became public on the eve of the Winter Olympics.

Delta travelers’ plans take a detour after de-icing truck strikes plane

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Travel plans were stymied for passengers aboard a Delta Airlines Flight at Hancock International Airport on Wednesday morning after their plane was struck by a de-icing truck.

The plane – which was bound for Atlanta – was stuck on the tarmac after the incident and 149 passengers were forced to get off.

The aircraft sustained only minor damage.

Some customers were put on a smaller plane, which departed a short time later.

Delta says it is still working to accommodate the other travelers who were impacted.

Delta Airlines donates to ‘Yolanda’ hit areas

Lawmakers whose provinces were ravaged by super typhoon Yolanda have received hundreds of boxes of relief goods from the Delta Airlines.

The boxes of goods consisting of blankets, socks and amenity kits were turned over last week in a simple ceremony held at the House of Representatives, led by the House minority bloc.

The turn-over ceremony was attended by Visayan lawmakers and mayors from Eastern Visayas.

YACAP Representative and Senior Deputy Minority Leader Carol Jayne B. Lopez said the donation was part of their group’s commitment to continuously support the government’s rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Yolanda-affected areas in Eastern Visayas.

Among those who received the relief goods include Leyte Reps. Lucy Torres-Gomez; Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Sergio Apostol, eastern Samar Rep.Ben Evardone and An waray Rep. Victoria Noel.

Lopez said they are committed to help the typhoon survivors get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.
