It is an age old dilemma that occurs on every single flight in the world – will reclining my seat bother the person behind me?

According to a recent study 9 out of 10 passengers would like reclining seats to be banned or, at the very least, only allowed during certain times on short flights. The study also uncovered facts that the majority of cabin crew have experienced heated arguments between passengers.

According to Psychologist Dr. Becky Spelman, the issue boils down to two personality types, the “altruistic soul” who is considerate of others, and the “selfish ego”, who will look to increase their own comfort at the expense of others.

Not surprisingly, the study found a majority of selfish egos with many admitting they had no concern to who was behind them before reclining their seat. Several stated that another passenger reclining a seat had caused them pain during a flight.

64% of surveyed travelers attested to never reclining their seat because they were too worried about another passengers bad reaction.

Next time you fly, you might think twice before reclining your seat and we recommend checking to see who is behind you first!
