Sick passenger prompts Ebola scare aboard flight

LAS VEGAS, NV – A Delta Airlines flight from New York was quarantined after landing in Las Vegas after a passenger reportedly got sick.

KTNV, the ABC-affiliate in Las Vegas, reports that a passenger who had reportedly traveled to Africa recently vomited during the flight prompting an assessment of possible Ebola.

Delta Flight #495 landed at McCarran International Airport shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, KTNV reports. A live video feed from KSNV showed multiple emergency vehicles around the plane.

Clark County officials said an assessment was conducted and the passenger does not “meet criteria for Ebola.”

NYC airport workers strike over Ebola fears

Airport workers who clean Delta Airlines planes walked off the job Wednesday night in a day-long strike against Ebola-related safety concerns at LaGuardia Airport.

Between 100 to 200 employees of Air Serv, which cleans Delta planes at Terminal D, went on strike at 10 p.m. and will return to work for the Thursday night shift at 6:30 p.m., according to 32BJ Service Employees International Union.

Workers earlier this year voted for SEIU’s representation but the company has yet to bargain with them, 32BJ spokeswoman Amity Paye said.

Picketing employees represented a majority of the workforce, according to Paye, though she conceded that Air Serve has brought in a handful of replacements for the day.

Reps for Delta and Air Serv could not be immediately reached for comment on Thursday.

Even though Terminal D only services domestic Delta flights, many international travelers still connect through LGA, the union said.

“Ebola is the word of the day but the workers are scared (of various work conditions) for many other reasons,” Paye said.

Breastfeeding Mom Kicked Off Of Delta Flight After Dispute With Flight Attendant

Delta Airlines has come under scrutiny for their handling of a mother and her breastfeeding child recently. The mother shared the story of what happened to her via her Facebook page, Momma Bean Stalk.

The woman was breastfeeding her child in a Delta airplane while the plane sat stationary during a delay. When the plane began to taxi, a flight attendant told the woman she needed to buckle up her breastfeeding child. The mother said she would and insisted it would only take a moment. The flight attendant had little patience, though.

“She then put her hands on her hips and leaned toward me and loudly said, ‘Now,’” the mother shared in a Facebook post. “I asked her why she was being so rude. She told me she would call the captain if I didn’t comply immediately. Three times, it was requested for me to buckle her in and only one time was a request, the other two were a demand and a threat. I had every intention of buckling her by takeoff as she had originally told me.”

The woman apparently didn’t secure her child quick enough for the flight attendant’s liking, and she was kicked off the flight. Here is the status she posted after being kicked off:

The woman was promptly met by police officers in the airport who told her she’d done nothing wrong. When she reached out to Delta, a representative from the company apologized for the flight attendant’s actions. The woman maintains her belief that the flight attendant discriminated against her because she was breastfeeding. Here is the post she put up after speaking with Delta:

The issue spread even more rapidly through communities of online mothers given Delta’s past breastfeeding policy, which forbid women from breastfeeding without a covering.

At 11 a.m. today, Purdue’s Department of Aviation Technology will officially receive a donated commercial aircraft from Delta Airlines.

The aircraft will be used for research and training at the Purdue University Airport, and it will help students gain knowledge about Federal Aviation Administration maintenance. The plane will also be used to practice towing, servicing and taxiing. The aircraft is a 50-seat jet that was manufactured in 1995 and was flown by a Purdue pilot instructor while in service.

The jet will be received by students and faculty at the Niswonger Aviation Technology Building.

Seahawks Punter Calls Out Delta For Offering Orioles Better Menu (Photo)

Seahawks Punter Calls Out Delta For Offering Orioles Better Menu (Photo)

Delta Airlines flew the Seattle Seahawks home Tuesday after their “Monday Night Football” win against the Washington Redskins, but they left evidence from another league’s team behind.

Seahawks punter Jon Ryan found the Baltimore Orioles’ in-flight menu from the O’s trip back to Maryland after their playoff game against the Detroit Tigers, and he called out the airline on Twitter for offering the MLB team a better selection.

The biggest difference between the menus is probably the health factor. The Orioles had great, healthy options like salmon and turkey burgers, while the Seahawks were offered cheeseburgers as a snack. The Seahawks were also denied breakfast for dinner, which is unfair because breakfast for dinner is the best.

Shame on you, Delta Airlines.

Richard Dunn has done it again with new YouTube video of Celine

Celine Dion meets Richard Dunn

Richard Dunn

The “lonely airport guy” who shot to global fame for his Celine Dion YouTube videos after filming himself singing her song “All By Myself” at 2 a.m. while stranded overnight in our McCarran International Airport has “dunn” it again.

This time, Richard Dunn turned his single iPhone camera shots into yet another video after picking up a $1,000 voucher from Delta Airlines for being voluntarily bumped from a flight from Venice, Italy, back to Atlanta. He chose “The Prayer” in tribute to Celine and Andrea Bocelli and incredibly lip-synced it in English and Italian.

The last time he was bumped here and stranded at our airport, his video received 20 million views and is now on more than 340 websites in some 150 countries. Celine even invited Richard and his family to meet her backstage at Caesars Palace.

Viral-video star Richard told me: “When the surge from the first video was starting to die down, I began thinking about what I wanted to do next. I just had to do it again.

“Although I only had my iPhone with me this time and it’s no ‘airport’ video, it was still a lot of fun and well worth sharing. I hope it makes you smile! If you think it’s hard to make a fool of yourself in an empty airport, try doing it in front of hundreds of people in St. Mark’s Square.

“When I got bumped, I was hesitant to do another video, but I needed to be true to myself. I have spent the past four months telling people to look for opportunity, to throw caution to the wind and just shoot videos, and here I was looking for a reason not to do it.

“These are hard to shoot. This time I only had the iPhone, no iPad, and the headphones were broken. But it was another unplanned opportunity, and I couldn’t let it go even with only a couple hours of daylight left. The gondolier thought I was nuts, especially when I changed shirts in the middle of my $120 ride!

“I hope Celine and her family see this and that they see it as another lighthearted video meant to make people smile.”

I think for a iPhone production, it’s a marvelous, fun video, and now with this early Vegas DeLuxe look, I predict millions more hits for the future Hollywood director if he ever wants to trade professions.

Virgin Atlantic Pulls Plug on Little Red Short Haul Service

Virgin

Virgin Atlantic has shocked the markets by axing its Little Red short haul service after only launching it 18 months ago with Delta Airlines.

Little Red, which had flights between London Heathrow and Manchester, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, will end its service in 2015 after lack lustre passenger uptake.

“When the competition authorities allowed British Airways to take over British Midland and all of its slots, we feared there was little we could do to challenge BA’s huge domestic and European network built through decades of dominance,” said Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Atlantic’s president.

“To remedy this, we were offered a meagre package of slots with a number of constraints on how to use them and we decided to lease a few planes on a short-term basis to give it our best shot.

“The odds were stacked against us and sadly we just couldn’t attract enough corporate business on these routes.”

Civil Aviation Authority data shows that Little Red flights were sometimes flying more than 60% empty.

British Airways’ owner International Airlines Group’s CEO Willie Walsh called the domestic venture a ‘mistake’ recently.
